With joy in the air and the spirit of heritage alive, the sacred grounds of Aghofen came aglow yesterday as Orere-Uluba was officially installed as the next custodian of the Ghigho Aghofen watch. The ceremony unfolded as an enduring tradition passed like a sacred torch from one faithful community to the next. The atmosphere echoed with drums and rhythm, as Ekurede bowed out with pride, their season of watch complete, and Orere-Uluba in large numbers rose with reverence to take their place in Aghofen.

His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, in his characteristic grace, expressed his delight in welcoming the incoming community. The day’s proceedings were filled with vibrant colours and festive energy—the people of Orere-Uluba adorned in their beautiful green and white attires, their presence a tapestry of pride, unity, and cultural strength. As the handover was sealed in ceremony, the atmosphere became filled not just with celebration, but with the unspoken weight of responsibility, honour, and service.

Dignitaries, guests and well-wishers from far and near graced the occasion, their presence a mark of the reverence with which the Ghigho Aghofen tradition is held. Sons and daughters of Orere-Uluba turned out in their numbers, some journeying from distant lands, to witness this defining moment for their community. It was a gathering of generations, bound by shared memory, shared future, and a deep love for the throne that unites them all.

Beyond its ceremonial beauty, Ghigho Aghofen continues to be a cornerstone of unity and cultural identity across the Warri Kingdom as it offers communities not only the honour of royal proximity, but the opportunity to awaken local enterprise, attract cultural tourism, and foster intergenerational learning. As Orere-Uluba begins its watch, His Majesty extends his blessings, wishing the community a fruitful and meaningful period at the Palace.
