Since its quiet inception, the Royal Iwere Society has been laying a strong foundation for initiatives that will shape the sociocultural landscape of the Kingdom. With key initiatives like the quarterly Ghigho Aghofen, the establishment of the Royal Iwere Choir and Royal Iwere Theatre Troupe, and the institution of the Royal Order of Iwere (ROI) awards—the second highest honor in Iwere after the sacred rite of chieftaincy conferment—the Society continues to make its mark.

Some past awardees include Captain Bob Hayes ROI, Nigeria’s first airplane pilot; Senator Fanny Moussokoura Chantal ROI, Deputy Senate President of Côte d’Ivoire and 1st Vice President of the ECOWAS Female Parliament Association; Pa Sam Amaka-Pemu, founder of Vanguard Newspaper; Mr. Amaju Pinnick ROI; Mr. Ade Mabo; and Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan ROI, among others. They shine as beacons of excellence and integrity, serving as role models worthy of emulation.

The new honorees—Papa Ayodele J. Oritsejafor (OFR, ROI), Mrs. Tara Fela-Durotoye ROI, Dr. Oti Ikomi ROI, Dr. (Mrs.) Helen Boyo-Ekwueme ROI, and Dr. Ebi Omatsola ROI—now join the Royal Iwere Society, strengthening its growing body of influence and excellence.

As the Coronation Anniversary draws to a close, the entire Itsekiri Nation is invited to the grand finale thanksgiving service, celebrating the grace, unity, and vision of His Majesty’s reign. Join us as we gather in gratitude and pride to reflect on a week of heritage, honor, and hope for the future.
